Google's New Car: No Driver and No Steering Wheel

Google has revealed a prototype of its latest driverless car -- and this one doesn't even have a steering wheel.

The car will only have a stop and go button. No steering wheel. No pedals.

Unlike Google's previous self-driving vehicles, which have been based on conventional cars adapted to navigate around without a driver, this model has been designed from scratch.

"They won't have a steering wheel, accelerator pedal, or brake pedal... because they don't need them," Google said in a statement. How smart tech is shaping the future

The car can carry two passengers and has a maximum speed of 25 miles per hour.

Google says the car's most important feature is its safety.

"They have sensors that remove blind spots, and they can detect objects out to a distance of more than two football fields in all directions, which is especially helpful on busy streets with lots of intersections," the company said.

With its front designed to look like a friendly smiley face, the Google autonomous car is not just efficient and futuristic, but also cute to look at.

Google said it planned to build around 100 prototypes, which it will start testing in a few months.

The company started developing its self-driving cars in 2005, and is testing previous models across the U.S. They are expected to be available to buy by 2020.

2 Real Madrid Fans Die In Lagos

Two middle-aged men, who were said to be die-hard supporters of Real Madrid Football Club, on Saturday slumped and died during the Champions League’s Final between Real Madrid and Athletico Madrid when the former team failed to equalise the one goal at 90 minutes of the game.

The crucial final match between Athletico Madrid and Real Madrid on Saturday night had ended almost in favour of Athletico until Madrid broke the deadlock at 93 minutes with a header from defender, Sergio Ramos.

The two men, Mr. Olusoga Ogunbanjo, aged 39, was a refrigerator technician, while Mr. Bambo Sholeye, 42, was an employee of the Lagos State Waste Management Authority. The two fans were residing at Smith and Apatira streets, Lagos Island respectively.

PUNCH Metro gathered that Ogunbanjo, who was fondly called Soga by his friends, went to a barbing saloon shop located at Okepopo Street to shave and later sat among other people to watch the match in the shop.

The owner of the shop, simply identified as Mr. Danku, noted that the deceased was rushed to the Lagos General Hospital, where he died.

He said, “Soga came to shave and after shaving, he decided to watch the UEFA championship match between Real and Athletico and when the game had reached 90 minutes, and Real Madrid were still one goal down, there was tension everywhere that Real Madrid had lost the match.”

“It was another boy sitting beside Soga that noticed that he had slumped and raised the alarm. We quickly rushed him to the emergency section of the Lagos General Hospital where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor on duty.”

Sholeye, who had also watched the match at a nearby shop left the place in frustration, lamenting the failure of Real Madrid to equalise the one goal scored by Athletico Madrid in the first half of the match.

He was said to have put up a chair at the front of their house and was still lamenting when he suddenly slumped and was taken to Lagos General Hospital, where the doctor confirmed that he was dead.

It was learnt that the remains of the two men were on Sunday morning buried on the Island by their respective relatives and friends.

The Lagos state Police spokesperson, Ngozi Braide, said the incidents were not reported at the police station.

(((WoW)))...MMIAirport Cleaner Stole 242m Naira!!

Cleaner at MMIA Steal N242m from Passenger’s Luggage And Flees to UK

Police detectives are now on the trail of a 26 year old airport cleaner, Chibuzor Onuegbe who allegedly smuggled N242 million out of the baggage store of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) undetected.Saturday Sun learnt from the police that the stolen money was packed in a bag in US dollar denomination totalling $1.5million which belongs to a middle aged woman (names withheld).  She was said to have deposited the sum at the MMIA baggage room on October 30, 2013 for safe keeping.  She discovered that the money was missing when she wanted to pick it.

After all efforts to trace the money failed, she reported the incident at the Lagos Police Command headquarters in Ikeja where the Commissioner of Police, Umaru Manko directed the Officer In-Charge of Special Anti Robbery Squad, Abba Kyari to fish out the culprits.

It was in the course of investigation that three suspects were indicted for complicity – the cleaner’s accomplice Ifeanyi Francis, his girl friend Chioma Obinabor and his elder brother Kalu Faith Onuegbe. But then, the prime suspect, Chibuzor had relocated to the UK.

  • I got only N60m from the deal – Francis

Face to face with his interrogators, Francis who claims to be an Engineering student at Government Technical College, Owerri, Imo State confessed that he never knew the content of the bag until he left the airport. In his words:

“I met Chibuzor early last year when I travelled to Enugu and we became friends. I am aware that he works as a cleaner at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos. Sometime in October, he called me that there is a job that he wants to execute and I will earn so much money.  I travelled down to Lagos with the excuse that I wanted to visit my sister who lives in Lagos.

He told me that he wanted to smuggle out some abandoned luggage from the baggage store at the international airport. He gave me a bag containing old laptops and clothes. He also gave me a tag ticket which was attached to the bag.

The deal was that I would get to the airport as early as 6am and move to the baggage store and drop the bag.  I will tell the store keeper that I want to register the bag and will be back in evening to pick it up.

As agreed on October 30, 2013, I went to the baggage store with the bag that already had a tag. The store keeper asked me to pay N300 for a day and N600, if I am to pick it the next day. I paid N300 and dropped the bag. Later in the evening as agreed, I came to the airport and picked the bag. When I saw Chibuzor, he told me that the deal did not work out, and that I will be repeating the same process.

The next day as agreed, Francis went through the same process and dropped the bag. In the evening at about 7pm, he went back and picked the bag.

“I discovered that the bag was unusually heavy.  Since I knew what was on ground, I pretended that it was the same weight. It was easy to pick the bag because I had a tag and a ticket.

I quickly moved and joined Chibuzor who was already with a taxi.  I asked him what was in the bag and he told me to calm down that I will get to know. We arrived his street and stopped in an area where cars were parked. He opened the bag; it was then that I realised that it contained bundles of dollar notes.

I was speechless because the amount was much. He told me that as a cleaner, he had access to the baggage room. All he did was to unlock my bag to which he had the key and transfer the bag of money into my own bag.  He told me to calm down that there is a lot to gain and that he needs to contact his friends at the airport before the money will be shared.  Those friends, he explained were the ones who gave him information that such amount of money was in the baggage room and the colour of the bag. He tried to close the bag and it was difficult, so he had to remove some bundles into another bag. We heard the voice of some boys coming towards us, so Chibuzor hurriedly left the spot and moved into their house. He forgot that he kept some money in the bag that I was holding. He rushed out and promised to call me for my share, ” Francis further said.

According to him, as soon as he got home Chibuzor realised that I was carrying the naira equivalent of N60 million.

“I decided to keep that money since Chibuzor did not remember that it was in my bag.  He called me later in the night demanding the money. I denied and he told me that I have taken my share. He switched off his phone and till date, I have not seen or heard from him.”

Armed with his windfall, Francis travelled back to Owerri and invested his money into acquiring properties.

“I bought two plots of land, and built 6 blocks of flat.  I also rented a nice apartment and furnished it to taste. I also acquired a pathfinder jeep. I do not know the whereabouts of Chibuzor, it was when they arrested me that I was told that he is in UK.”

  • Chibuzor promised to marry me – girlfriend

As soon as Chibuzor realised that he was a rich man overnight, one of the things he did was to date beautiful women.  One of such was Chioma Obinabor, who he met while he was travelling down to Owerri. She was also arrested by the police, when investigations showed that she assisted Chibuzor to acquire properties in Onitsha.

Chioma told Saturday Sun that since she was still single, it was not abnormal for a man to approach her for relationship.

“Sometime in November, I sat by his side on board an ITC bus heading for Owerri. We got talking and exchanged phone numbers. He also paid  my transport fare to Owerri. The next day he called me and invited me to his hotel room, it was then that he told me that he is a business man and that his office is at MMIA, Lagos. We chatted and ended up having sex and when I was leaving he gave me N20, 000 and promised to keep in touch.

Few days later, he called me again and gave me N50, 000 and our next meeting another N100, 000. We were so much in love and he told me that I am the kind of wife that he dreamt that God should bring his way.  I was happy, because at 27, I should be married.

Also during Christmas period, he gave me N230, 000 for my shopping.  This year, he asked me to help him acquire a land in Onitsha. I was able to acquire 10 plots of land for N19 million at an area called ‘33’ in Onitsha.

He told me that he was travelling to UK and would go through Ghana. His explanation was that DANA airline goes to UK through Ghana. I never knew that he was running away.  I thought he was real, till the police arrested me. It was at the police that I was told that he is a cleaner at the airport and most importantly that he is 26 years old,” Chioma narrated.

  • I was confused when I saw the money- elder brother

Also in the course of investigation, operatives of SARS invited Chibuzor’s elder brother, Kalu who is based in Port Harcourt. He was told that the police was looking for Chibuzor and pleaded with him to assist them over the theft.

Unfortunately, as soon as Chibuzor visited him with a bag full of dollars, Kalu decided to shield his brother from the police.

“After my visit to SARS, Lagos, I was determined to hand over my brother to the police. I even confided in my family members who told me that it is an abomination to be the one to expose my family member. I was told that if SARS should catch him, that he might be killed.

Days after that visit, Chibuzor came and handed me the bag and asked me to keep it safe.  I was terrified but happy that God had remembered our family. I was so confused.

Three days later he came back and collected the bag and gave me N10 million. I also assisted him to acquire landed properties in Port Harcourt. He told me that he was travelling to UK to further his education and will be back very soon. I knew that he was travelling to UK, because he showed me his Visa.

I am terribly sorry and willing to return everything that I got from him. If you were in my shoes, I’m sure that you will protect your family,” Kalu stated.

2 Teenage Students Escaped Ritual Murder In Gboko

A 13-year-old Junior Secondary II student of Government Secondary School Gboko, Dooyum Moar, and another female student of Gkoko High School, narrowly escaped being beheaded by a ritualist after being kidnapped by a commercial vehicle operator in Makurdi.

Vanguard gathered from an elated father of one of the victims, Mr. Ephraim Maor, that he had on Monday morning taken his son to the Wurukum motor park in Makurdi, where he boarded a vehicle to Gboko to resume school.

He said: “I had put him in the commercial vehicle which had other passengers and was heading to Gboko, a trip that was less than 80 kilometres from Makurdi.
“I gathered from my son that when they were less than five kilometres to Gboko town, at Yandev, the driver said his vehicle developed a fault.

“He said, at that point, most of the passengers opted to board other vehicles, but the driver urged my son and another female student of Gboko High School to wait for another vehicle he contacted to take them to their destination.

“Few minutes later, a Toyota Hilux van came and the two of them were asked to board the vehicle, but on getting to their destination, the driver of the van refused to stop. The occupants of the van tied up the children and blindfolded them.

“My son said they were taken to a forest in Gboko where the kids were tied to the ground and presented before an aged woman in a shrine who wanted to behead them for rituals, but later changed her mind.
“At this time, my son said they were crying and begging for mercy, then the woman handed a machete to one of the kidnappers, instructing that they should be killed on their way back.

“However, by divine intervention, the kidnappers did not kill them as instructed, but dumped them at Apir on the outskirts of Makurdi, where a good Samaritan picked them up.”
The elated father said he had already reported the matter to the police while the second victim was handed over to the police in Makurdi, where her parents picked her up.

Arsenal Targets Bayer Leverkusen's Lars Bender

On the move? Arsenal want Leverkusen midfielder Lars Bender

Arsenal have made German international midfielder Lars Bender their top priority this summer.

Gunners manager Arsene Wenger has identified the Bayer Leverkusen workhorse as the man who can add some much-needed strength to his engine room next term.

After missing out last summer, Wenger is determined to get his man in the next transfer window.

So, just what kind of player are the Gunners getting should they snare Bender from the BayArena? We've got the info right here.

What type of player is he?

Bender is famed for his impressive workrate, and tireless efforts in a deep-lying midfield position.

The Leverkusen man would add some tenacity and doggedness to an engine room that has perhaps valued style over substance at times this season.

Wenger failed to land the 25-year-old last summer, and subsequently brought back Mathieu Flamini on a free transfer to play the role of midfield firefighter.

Bender, however, would be a step up from the Frenchman, and the school of thought is that the German's particular brand of wet works would provide the perfect base for the likes of Mesut Ozil and Santi Cazorla to flourish further up the field next term.

How much will he cost?

The Gunners missed out on landing Bender last summer, with varying reports claiming that a £19m bid was on the table.

Bayer are currently fourth in the Bundesliga, a point above Wolfsburg with two games left to play, and qualification for next season's Champions League would strengthen Leverkusen's hand at the negotiating table.

A fee of around £20m is expected should the Germans make it into Europe's premier competition next term.

On the mark: Lars Bender netted for Germany in the 2012 Euros

However a strong showing for Germany at this summer's World Cup could also see his value increase.

Bender also has four years left of his current deal, meaning Leverkusen are in no rush to offload.

Lars Bender factfile

Bender signed for Leverkusen in 2009, making over 100 appearances for the Bundesliga outfit.

He was part of the Germany Under-19 squad that triumphed at the 2008 Euros in the Czech Republic.

The midfielder made his full international debut in September 2011 against Poland.

Bender was a member of the Germany squad for Euro 2012, scoring the winning goal in a 2-1 win against Denmark.

Bender has a twin brother, Lars, who plays for Borussia Dortmund.

The midfielder won the 2006 Fritz Walter Gold Medal award - an accolade that recognises players under the age of 17 in Germany.
